Легенда про Еріка
Дійсно, ім'я Ерік схиляє свого власника до якоїсь войовничості, у всякому разі, факт залишається фактом: із двох знаменитостей, які носили це славне ім'я, обидва відзначилися саме своїми військовими подвигами і навіть деякій буйній вдачі.
Так, перший з них, відповідно до грецької міфології, син бога морів Посейдона і богині любові і краси Афродіти - Ерік, був правителем в одній з областей Еллади. В окрузі він вважався неперевершеним борцем, з легкістю перемагав не тільки місцевих, але і заїжджих силачів-знаменитостей. А тому не дивно, що, коли через приналежну йому територію проходив Геракл, повертаючись після чергового подвигу з коровами Геріона, Ерік викликав героя на поєдинок. Договір же, укладений між ними, був наступний: у разі поразки, Геракл віддає переможцеві корів Геріона, якщо ж перемагає він - герою дістаються всі землі Еріка. За легендою, Геракл тричі здобув перемогу над занадто самовпевненим царем, після чого вбив його.
Ерік Кривава Сокира
Другою відомою історії людиною з таким ім'ям був не хто інший, як Ерік на прізвисько Кривава Сокира. Цей вікінг, дивував однаковою мірою як своєї нестримною хоробрістю, так і холодною нелюдською жорстокістю, і дійсно заслужив своє прізвисько.
У 948 році Кривава Сокира став королем Нортумбленда в Англії, проте це не могло вгамувати спрагу його влади, і він поступово почав пробивати собі дорогу до Норвезького трону. У боротьбі за владу Ерік холоднокровно убив двох своїх рідних братів - правда, після цього був змушений тікати з країни. Так і пройшло все життя вікінга у війнах, інтригах і пагонах: тільки з Англії йому доводилося бігти двічі. Останнє ж повернення до тієї країни виявилося для нього і зовсім не вдалим, і в 945 році при спробі повернути собі англійський престол Ерік Кривава Сокира був убитий.
